Each year, the most academically accomplished Pop Warner kids compete for Academic All-American status. This process begins at the association level and up through each of the eight Pop Warner regions to the national level. In 2002, approximately 360,000 kids participated in Pop Warner. Incredibly, more than 45,000 achieved regional pre-qualifying status for national recognition. As our numbers once again reached record levels, 229 First Team members and over 3,400 Second Team members were named PWLS Academic All-Americans at the National Level in 2002.
There are two components to the Little Scholars program. First there is "Eligibility", and second is the "Recognition".
Eligibility
In order to participate in Pop Warner activities each participant must meet a minimum scholastic requirement or obtain a waiver ("Scholastic Eligibility Form") from their school or school district. Each player and cheerleader must score at least 70 on the Little Scholars Scholastic Form. Many people would think of this as having a "C" average.
Recognition
Each year, at many levels (Association, Conference, Region, and National), children are recognized for their scholastic achievements. This recognition takes different forms depending upon the organization. Those who qualify for National recognition usually attend an award ceremony.
